The West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme is an education loan scheme of the Government of West Bengal designed to help eligible students pursue recognised academic and professional education without allowing financial constraints to become the main barrier to their studies.
Primary Purpose:To help eligible students pursue education without financial constraints by providing an education loan with a maximum sanctioned amount of up to ₹10 lakh under the scheme's terms.
Key Scheme Objectives
- Enable students from West Bengal to pursue secondary, higher secondary, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral studies in India or abroad.
- Provide collateral-free education loans up to ₹10 lakh at a nominal simple interest rate of around 4% per annum.
- Support comprehensive education expenses including course fees, hostel charges, books, laptop, and study materials.
- Offer a student-friendly repayment tenure of up to 15 years with a moratorium of course duration plus one year.

Standard Eligibility Requirements
- Resident of West Bengal for 10 years or more
- Age 40 years old or below at the time of application
- Enrolled in a recognised educational institution in India or abroad
- Completed at least Class IX (Madhyamik or equivalent)
- Secured admission in an eligible course (Class X to Post-Doctorate)
- Co-borrower required (parent or legal guardian)
- Applicant and co-borrower must not be in default of any bank loan
- Only one Student Credit Card is allowed per student
- Application submitted online via official WBSCC portal with valid documents
Not Eligible:
- Applicants above 40 years of age at the time of application.
- Applicants residing in West Bengal for less than 10 years.
- Applicants or co-borrowers who are existing defaulters on previous bank loans.
- Courses or institutions that are not recognised under the scheme.
- Students who already hold an active West Bengal Student Credit Card.

Important to Know
The scheme provides an education loan up to ₹10 lakh; it is not an automatic ₹10 lakh entitlement.
This is an education loan scheme that must be repaid, not a free cash grant or non-repayable scholarship.
