Jai Johar (officially designated as the Jai Johar Scheme - Old Age Pension for ST Communities) is a flagship social security initiative launched by the Government of West Bengal on 1 April 2020 under the state’s unified Jai Bangla social-protection framework. Administered by the Tribal Development Department, the scheme is dedicated exclusively to elderly citizens belonging to Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities who are aged 60 years or above with limited or no stable income. Eligible beneficiaries receive a recurring monthly pension of ₹1,000 transferred directly into their bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Jai Johar provides an ongoing monthly social security pension of ₹1,000 per beneficiary. It is a lifelong old-age pension benefit, NOT a one-time grant, student scholarship, or loan.
